Vulcain
Switzerland

Founded in 1858 in Switzerland, Vulcain built its reputation on fine mechanical craftsmanship—but it was a 1947 invention that really put the brand on the map: the Cricket. This was the world’s first truly functional mechanical alarm wristwatch, loud enough to actually wake its wearer.
The Cricket’s reliability and novelty made it a favourite of U.S. presidents, starting with Harry Truman. Over time, it earned the nickname “The President’s Watch,” having adorned the wrists of Eisenhower, Johnson, and Nixon, among others.
Why we like them:
Beyond the Cricket, Vulcain produced high-quality dive and dress watches with in-house movements, often flying under the radar but packed with substance.
What’s happening now?
Recently revived with a new wave of releases, Vulcain is reintroducing classic models with updated specs, appealing to those who want a vintage aesthetic with modern reliability.
