Adolescence can be an uncomfortable period of life. We begin to develop our own identity, ambitions and beliefs, but often do so while facing setbacks, uncertainty and self-doubt. Few people move through those years without being knocked down from time to time.

This piece draws on the visual language of classic comic books. A young hero faces a powerful adversary and appears to be losing the battle. Yet the story is not really about defeat. It captures the moment before recovery; the point at which a person decides whether to stay down or get back up.

The watch and the symbol it carries represent knowledge, learning and personal growth. They are a reminder that resilience is not something we are born with, but something we develop through experience. Education plays an important role in that process, giving us tools to understand the world, overcome challenges and discover our own potential.

Many coming-of-age stories follow a similar path. The hero rarely succeeds because life is easy. Instead, they succeed because adversity forces them to grow into someone stronger than they were before.

Created in support of children’s education, this piece reflects the idea that the challenges we face during our formative years often play a role in shaping who we eventually become.
