Pisces

The story

Pisces uses two betta fish to create a sense of harmony through opposing movement. Both fish swim counter-clockwise around the dial, while the watch hands move clockwise above them. That contrast — two directions sharing the same space — gives the design its balance. It’s subtle, but once seen, it becomes the core of how the piece feels.

Betta fish were chosen for their shape and flow. Their fins create natural curves that sit well inside the circular dial, allowing their movement to guide the viewer’s eye around the composition. They’re lively without being chaotic, and their sweeping forms make the idea of circular motion feel smooth and intentional.

The small seconds subdial becomes part of the design rather than an obstacle. Its steady movement reinforces the idea of time flowing differently for each element — the hands travelling one way, the fish gliding the other. It ties the artwork to the mechanics of the watch without becoming a gimmick.

This piece is about motion, balance and direction — simple ideas made clearer by the contrast between living forms and mechanical time.

The inspiration for the layout of the black space was the Rorschach ink test, where people interpret seemingly random ink blots for the purposes of psychoanalysis.
