Lady of fortune

The story

The 1971 King Seiko Certified Chronometer, model 5626-7040, stands as a testament to the pinnacle of Japanese watchmaking during the early 1970s. As part of Seiko's prestigious King Seiko line, this piece embodies a perfect blend of precision, craftsmanship, and elegance. The 5626-7040 is not only a certified chronometer, ensuring exceptional accuracy, but it also showcases the meticulous attention to detail that Seiko is renowned for.

With its striking design and robust construction, the King Seiko 5626-7040 appeals to both collectors and enthusiasts alike. This model features all the classic grammars of design from Seiko, notably its sharp edged polished case and distinctive elegant hands and markers, making it a perfect smart sports watch. The movement, powered by the reliable 5626 caliber, offers a remarkable balance of performance and reliability, solidifying its status as a coveted piece in the world of horology.

This piece had suffered some damage near the 6 and 4 hour markers and a little near the 2pm marker. The design had to ensure the text which describes the credentials of this special watch. The flowers, peonies and chrysanthemums symbolise luck and fortune but are slightly complex and busy in appearance, so this is balanced by the painting of the female on the left hand side. Only 2 colors are used, Magenta, and a little Cadmium red. The style is partially based on graffiti which is completely shunned in Japan, but intended to still be close to the artistic and craft patterns common in japanese fabrics and paintings.
