Childhood is often defined by possibility.

Many of the limits and assumptions that arrive later in life have yet to take hold, leaving space for curiosity, imagination and optimism. Children have a remarkable ability to look beyond what is immediately in front of them and focus instead on what might be.

This piece was inspired by that perspective. A young figure looks towards the sky, surrounded by flowers and colour, capturing a moment of hopefulness and quiet wonder. The scene is intentionally simple, reflecting the uncomplicated confidence with which children often approach the world around them.

The flowers are inspired by Shenzhen’s bougainvillea, one of the city’s most recognisable symbols. Known for their vibrant colour and resilience, they can be found throughout the city, bringing bursts of life to streets, parks and public spaces.

Created in support of children’s education, the piece reflects qualities that education helps to nurture: curiosity, aspiration and the belief that the future can be shaped through learning and opportunity.

The future is always uncertain, but it begins with the ability to imagine something beyond the present. Sometimes all it takes is the confidence to look up.
